Taoiseach says there's no need for maternity restrictions to be in place in maternity hospitals

Michael Martin says he's asked the HSE to speak to the hospitals about facilitating partners for scans, appointments and the early stages of labour.

Four protests were staged at maternity hospitals in Dublin, Louth and Donegal today calling for an end to the restrictions.

Mother of two Emma Cutlip joined the protest at Our Lady of Lourdes in Drogheda today, "because there's nobody being employed from it, there's nobody making money from it, it's just women's welfare that nobody's interested in sorting it out you know it's it's ridiculous that I can now go into Pennys today, or I could go get my hair done today. But if I were to have a miscarriage today I couldn't have my partner with me. "
