Some students won't return to classrooms until April under the government's plan for re-opening

Senior Ministers will meet this evening to discuss the re-opening of schools on a phased basis from March 1st.

Leaving Cert students will return in less than two weeks alongside junior and senior infants.

Special schools are also likely to return to full capacity from March 1st.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says everything else will be on a phased basis:

"Just in terms of dates. I've never used the date, the first of March I appreciate maybe others have. What I have said here in the Dail, is the plan and has been the plan for quite some time, is the phased reopening of schools. Starting with special schools -  that's done and moving on to special classes and then across March and April to open schools on a phased  basis"
