Around €50 Million Loss To Economy Due To Cancellation Of National Ploughing Championships

Organisers made the announcement today that the trade exhibition due to take place in Co. Laois in September won't go ahead but the national competitions will

Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue says he tried to give clarity to organisers:

"I engaged very closely with them to try and bring as much clarity as we possibly could to the situation, for them to make their considerations. Obviously, we all know where we've come from since January. NPHET obviously are very closely monitoring as well where we are and how successful we are moving along, and the scope that that gives us to give more clarity in relation to the future months. I know that posed a challenge for the National Ploughing Association, given the timeline and the run-in for their large event."
