18,500 People Have Had Their Pandemic Unemployment Payments Stopped

The payments were stopped after investigations by the Department of Social Protection.   

Over 5,300 people have made repayments to the department after receiving money they weren't entitled to. 

According to freedom of information figures, they've repaid over €4.3 million since the PUP scheme was launched in March. 

Sinn Féin's spokesperson for social protection, Claire Kerrane, says the new figures are 'alarming':
