Signing Of New Bill Sealing Mother And Baby Homes Record For 30 Years Welcomed By West Cork TD

Holly Cairns says the unusual step by the President means that any citizen can now challenge the provision of the bill in the future

The new bill will see all records - apart from a database being transferred to Tusla - sealed for three decades 

Yesterday protesters tied children's shoes to the gates of Áras An Uachtaráin, calling for the government to 'Repeal the Seal'. 

Deputy Cairns says it's important to remember why the Commission was mounted in the first place as it came on foot of the fact that the bodies of 600 dead babies were found in Tuam and to this day the whereabouts of many more babies at the Bessborough Home in Cork remain unaccounted for.
