Cork and Kerry have the longest lists in the country for home help - with over quarter of all people who are waiting for the service, living in the region.

HSE figures show that, at the end of August, 1,648 people in Cork and Kerry alone were waiting for home help hours to be allocated.

The programme is to allow older people stay living at home for longer, by helping with tasks such as dressing, personal care, and getting in to and out of bed.

The next worst hit region - Carlow/South Tipperary/Waterford - has 41 per cent fewer people on the waiting list than Cork and Kerry.

RedFM News has contacted the HSE for comment.
