Cork Airport is reminding people not to pack Christmas crackers when travelling over the festive season.

Crackers contain a restricted substance that is not permitted on board an aircraft.

The airport also says that even though it’s the season to bring gifts in your luggage, presents should not be wrapped - just in case they need to be checked at security.

Barry Holland of Cork Airport told RedFM News that Christmas crackers won’t make it past security:

"Another piece of advice that we always issue at Christmastime is about Christmas crackers. While they're very popular on the Christmas table on Christmas Day, they are never permitted on board aircrafts as they are classified as dangerous goods. They're forbidden on board aircraft so we advise passengers accordingly not to bring them to the airport".
