Insufficient funding has been allocated to provide free schoolbooks to primary school students next year, despite government promises.
That's the view of publishers and booksellers who think there was a lack of detail to deliver the plans, as reported by The Irish Times.
It was announced in the budget by the Minister for Education that €47m would be set aside to provide free school books to all 540,000 primary pupils.
Some estimate that it amounts to funding of between €80-90, but the Irish League of Credit Unions estimates the average cost of books per pupil is €110 euro.
