A human resources expert says employers could lose workers if they reduce pay for those working from home.
Google is trialling a new internal 'pay calculator' which shows a worker what they will be paid working remotely in different areas, with pay cuts in places where cost of living is lower.
Managing director of the HR suite Caroline Reidy says this could lead to staff issues.
"I think it's going to disadvantage the employers that are going to be the first off the mark to consider it.
"There is talk of returning to the office here in Ireland, the September timeline approximately, people are starting to say 'well if I have to come back fully I'm not happy about that, and I'm going to look for another job."
