A visitor to Ireland's been quoted more to hire a car for nine days, than buying it new.
The tourist was told he would have to pay over 50,000 euro for the duration of his trip here.
His brother in law, former Leitrim councillor John McCartin, says it sends a poor message about Ireland's tourism sector:
"Clearly, these aggregator sites reach out to all the car rental companies and they eventually procure a price based on the demand and availability. And clearly they reach for as much as they can get. Somebody somewhere along the line must have thought that €51,000 was gettable for a €45,000 vehicle".
