Using Dun Laoghaire Harbour as a naval base is 'under initial discussions' according to the local Council.
The Irish Times reports the Department of Defence and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council have been in contact over the move.
The local authority could support it, however it's keen not to impact any other operations at the relatively small facility.
Cabinet recently signed off on a large increase in defence spending which will see the Navy have nine ships and 18 crews by the 2030s.
