Two large data centres in Dublin have been given the go-ahead, despite objections from environmental groups.
Amazon have been granted planning permission by Dublin City Council for the construction of the buildings in Clonshaugh Business and Technology Park.
The decision comes amid fears of pressure on the national grid in the winter months, as the country grapples with limited electricity supplies.
According to the Examiner, data centres account for 14 per cent of the country's electricity demand in 2021.
