Tusla received more reports of child abuse in November than another other month

Tusla received nearly 1,600 official reports of child abuse last November - which was more than any other month in 2020.

A fifth of them related to sexual abuse.

A select group of people are able to lodge ‘mandated reports’ of abuse to Tusla, such as teachers, doctors and the gardai.

New figures show the Child and Family Agency received 1,599 last November, which is 9%more than October and significantly more than any other month in 2020.

A breakdown of November’s figures shows 39 per cent related to emotional abuse, while physical abuse accounted for 31 per cent.

20%related to sexual abuse and the remaining 11% are reports of neglect.

The sexual abuse category rose by 12% in November, with 317 reports received during the month, compared 283 in October.
