A Kerry TD says people in the county are horrified over the death of 13 year-old Jack de Bromhead at a race.

The jockey died after he fell from his horse at Rossbeigh Beach during the Glenbeigh Races in Kerry on Saturday.

The teenager is the son of Grand National-winning trainer Henry de Bromhead.

Independent Kerry Deputy Michael Healy Rae is paying this tribute to Jack.

"On Saturday, the county of Kerry was plunged into despair and sadness for the de Bromhead family.

"Jack was a lovely, bright intelligent young boy. I heard an interview that he had done, he was so full of life and full of enthusiasm."

A local councillor's describing the death of Jack de Bromhead as a 'terrible tragedy'.

Councillor Michael Cahill says the local community is very sad such a young life was lost.

"The entire community is in a complete state of shock, I've never witnessed anything like it.

"A young boy, 13 years of age, his whole life ahead of him, destined to become a champion.

"I was at Caherciveen races last Sunday, and after he won a race he was interviewed with his dad. It was a beautiful interview."
