The government faces a difficult decision when the evictions ban is due to expire next month, according to housing charity Threshold.
The ban on tenants being evicted from rental properties will be lifted at the end of March, unless the government decides to extend it.
It's after the Tanaiste said yesterday that extending the ban could make things worse, while Threshold warns it would provide a threat to private rental supply.
In November Threshold revealed that it was answering one call every 20 minutes from private renters facing eviction.
The charity's report showed that its advisors were handling an average of 472 queries a month from people being told they have to leave their rented properties.
The Institute of Professional Auctioneers has said it's opposed to an extension of the evictions ban.
