A former GAA player has been arrested in the eastern region, in relation to an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud.

It is understood the man was arrested yesterday afternoon.

The development comes following revelations from a number of people that they had been approached by the former player seeking money.

A man has been charged with the murder of an Irish Bishop in California.

69 year old David O'Connell, who was from Cork,  was found dead at his home last Saturday, the Auxiliary Bishop for the Catholic Archdiocese of LA had been shot in the torso.

His housekeeper's husband, Carlos Medina, was arrested on Monday.

He's been charged with one count of murder and is due in court later today.

The Taoiseach's condemned the shooting of a PSNI officer in Co. Tyrone last night as "a grotesque act of attempted murder".

Its understood the off-duty officer was coaching a youth football team at a sports complex in Omagh when he was shot.

He is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The shooting's been condemned across political divides as 'outrageous', 'shameful' and 'disgraceful'.

HIQA received 60 'concerns' over the last two years regarding Tusla’s handling of complaints and allegations of child abuse in foster care and residential centres.

The details were released under the Freedom of Information Act.
