It's feared the new Northern Ireland Protocol deal will not be accepted by even moderate unionists.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will meet today for what are described as "final talks".

The DUP says any deal must NOT include checks on goods between the North and the rest of the UK.

Editor of The Belfast Newsletter, Ben Lowry thinks there's been unfair criticism of genuine unionist concerns.

"Northern Ireland will fundamentally be, I believe unless something very surprising happens, under EU rules. That's a very difficult thing for Unionists to accept.

"I think a lot of the characterisation of Unionism of being unreasonable and extreme and so on is quite wrong, as there are are broad spectrum of Unionists."
