The terrorism charge brought against Kneecap’s Mo Chara in the UK has been dropped.
The rapper, whose real name is Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh appeared before Woolwich Crown Court this morning.
This hearing was Mo Chara’s third appearance before a London court since he was charged with the offence in May.
He spoke through an Irish language interpreter for the entire proceedings
It had been alleged he displayed a flag in support of Hezbollah at one of the group’s London shows last year.
It had been the defence’s case that the charge was brought outside the six month limit in order for the court to have jurisdiction to hear the case.
Today, the judge ruled in their favour, and the charge has been thrown out.
Speaking in court, the judge clarified this does not indicate Mo Chara’s innocence or guilt in the alleged incident, but simply means the case cannot proceed.
The public gallery erupted into cheers once the decision was revealed, while hundreds of supporters outside the court held a celebratory fleadh cheoil.
