The tenant at the heart of the Jim Gavin rent scandal has spoken out publicly for the first time.
Journalist Niall Donald’s tenant dispute was reported by the Irish Independent, which claimed his landlord at the time - Jim Gavin - owed him more than 3 thousand euro, dating back to 2009.
The former Dublin GAA Manager pulled out of the Presidential race on Sunday night and this afternoon Jim Gavin says he will repay the €3,300 owed to his former tenant subject to two clarifications.
Speaking on the Sunday World’s Crime Podcast, Niall Donald says the issue could have been easily resolved
"Why didn't they just contact me a few weeks ago and and sort it out or explain it to somebody? I mean, I presume Jim Gavin doesn't have that kind of media savvy, why would he? he's not t a spin doctor for a political party. I really felt like that should have been resolved and and I felt sorry for him"
