The Taoiseach wants University Hospital Limerick and the HSE to respond urgently to a HIQA report on overcrowding at the facility.

It comes after the health watchdog conducted an unannounced visit at the emergency department in April and witnessed "gross levels" of overcrowding.

HIQA raised serious concerns about patient safety as a result of overcrowding in the ED.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin says money's there to address the problem:

"We have provided the funding. And without question, the HSE, and the hospital, and the regional governance will have to respond very, very urgently to the conclusion of that HIQA report".
