The Taoiseach says what’s happening in Twitter is unacceptable and the company must conform with Irish employment law.

It's after staff were dealt an ultimatum, either sign up for "long hours of high intensity" work or leave the company with three months' severance.

Twitter’s Dublin office is also closed today, with no explanation given to staff.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the IDA is in constant contact with the company:

"It's unacceptable what's happening within Twitter in terms of employees who have a very uncertain futures, that there's a need for coherence and there's a need for clear roadmap ahead in terms of of Twitter. So we will work with all employees to see what we can do to help them to be of assistance and yes, our laws will apply."
