The Taoiseach says the make-up of a United Ireland could take many forms.

It comes after Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said the North could retain an assembly, its courts and a separate education system under a United Ireland.

Leo Varadkar was booed by a small number of the crowd at a conference in the Three Arena in Dublin yesterday.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin says a United Ireland could take a number of forms but consensus is key:

"My shared Ireland initiative that we've developed over the last two years has been very, very effective. I mean, we've had thousands of people involved in different  topics involved that shared Island dialogue. So we now have an all Island climate and biodiversity network. We have an all Island Women's Network. And that's working very well. And that's that's the building blocks that's needed for this. It's slow work. It's hard work, but still there's an alternative to it."
