The Taoiseach says getting surrogacy legislation over the line is vital for both children and their parents.

A memo which is before cabinet today is expected to support the drafting of a number of amendments to legislation around international surrogacy.

If approved, children born through surrogacy abroad will finally be able to have their Irish parents registered on their birth certificate.

Speaking at his last Cabinet meeting as Taoiseach, Micheál Martin says the issue needs to be resolved once and for all.
