The Taoiseach says the Government will do everything it can to alleviate the pressure households are facing in terms of the cost of energy but has stopped short of saying that price caps will be introduced.
Micheál Martin was speaking in Cork yesterday as more homes and businesses report getting large electricity bills as the cost of energy crisis continues ahead of the winter.
The government have promised to address the growing cost of living crisis in the Budget later this month with a once-off package.
Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says a meeting will be held later today to discuss all options for reducing the price of energy.
"The windfall tax issue is complex. The Minister for Finance will be looking at the detailed design of that before the meeting with the other two party leaders, and with Minister McGrath and Minister Pascal Donohoe to look at those three issues.
"We're conscious that the European Union commission and the ministers for energy are meeting on the 9th of September, and also that the commission is looking at an emergency provision to deal with the energy market."
