The President and the Taoiseach have sent their congratulations to the Girls in Green after they secured the Republic of Ireland’s first ever qualification for a Women’s World Cup.
They beat Scotland 1-0 at Hampden Park last night to progress to the tournament which takes place in Australia and New Zealand next year.
President Michael D Higgins described the teams achievement as 'historic' while Michael Martin described their win as 'disciplined, organised and spirited'.
