The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar is expected to meet the IDA today, to discuss concerns about further job losses in the tech sector here.

Twitter began laying off around half of its Irish workforce last Friday, while payments firm Stripe announced its letting around 14% of its global staff go.

It comes ahead of a meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Wednesday to discuss the redundancies.

Committee Chair, Maurice Quinlivan hopes progress is made for Twitter staff at today's meeting with the IDA.

"There is a huge concern out there, so hopefully the meeting we have with the Tanaiste will provide clarity as to what's going on, and we can reassure some of the people.

"It's simply not good enough that companies are saying they're going to lay people off, but not tell people the people who are going to be laid off.

"It's difficult enough losing your job without being in limbo as to where you're going to go."

Meanwhile there are fears this morning for more Irish tech jobs.

Meta - the parent company of Facebook - is set to slash thousands of jobs from its global workforce of over 83 thousand people.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting the layoff's planned for Meta would be the largest for a major tech company this year.

An announcement could come as early as Wednesday.

Meta employs over 3,000 staff in Ireland.
