The Tánaiste says it will take a number of days before every Irish citizen is evacuated from Sudan.
150 Irish citizens have registered with the Department of Foreign Affairs to be evacuated, as 12 members of the Defence Forces make their way to the country.
Of those, 50 Irish people been removed with the aid of Spanish and French personnel.
Tánaiste Michael Martin says it has been a good operation from other EU nations so far:
"150-odd have registered with our embassy in Kenya. So they're clearly registering with a view to seeking evacuation. It will take a number of days. I think I need to say that. And this is similar to Afghanistan, although I think we're relatively pleased with the numbers that have already managed to get out overnight. And again, I think the the French and the Spanish who have a presence on the ground think they've deployed very well."
