The Tánaiste has said the Government is moving to ensure the tickets for the upcoming Ireland - Portugal game at the Aviva can't be sold for above face value.

The event is sold out - with tickets appearing on resale websites for many times the original price.

The FAI has applied to have the game protected under ticket touting laws which Leo Varadkar says will take a number of days to do.

He says in future large sporting events and gigs need to be protected from touting from the get go:

"The lesson from the Ireland Portugal experience is that the department has take a more proactive approach on this. So we're actively approaching venues like the Aviva. We're going to talk to the big sporting bodies and the big concert promoters thinking ahead to concerts that are happening in November. The rugby internationals, other matches that are coming up as well, and taking a more proactive approach into the future."
