The Tánaiste is today expected to tell party members that Fine Gael will put protecting livelihoods, to the top of its agenda.

Leo Varadkar will address two thousand people at it's National Conference in Athlone this evening, just weeks away from when he’s expected to take over as Taoiseach again.

Last night Leo Varadkar told reporters people’s livelihoods will be protected at all costs under his party’s policies.

However speaking ahead of todays Ard Fheis the Fine Gael Leader and Tánaiste said he "wouldn't deny there are "enormous challenges" in areas such as housing.

Leo Varadkar’s comments come just 28 days away from when he’s expected to become Taoiseach again. It’s part of the rotating deal between Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Green Party Under the programme for government.

It’s expected over two thousand people will be in attendance at the Fine Gael Ard Fheis today at the Technological University of the Shannon - with the Tánaiste expected to make his speech at 6.30pm.
