Young children are being exposed to vast amounts of inappropriate content, according to CyberSafeKids.
The survey found that almost one in three pre-teen boys are playing over-18s online games, and are more likely to be exposed to violent imagery and harmful content.
It also highlighted that 64% of children said they'd been contacted by a stranger in an online game.
Chief executive of CyberSafeKids, Alex Cooney, says the government needs to put legislation in place that will hold the online service providers to account.
