One in nine people would not tell anyone if they had mental health difficulties.
A survey, commissioned by St Patrick's Mental Health Services, also found one in six would keep drug or alcohol problems secret.
It found there had been some regression this year in the positive attitudes towards the issue of mental health.
Professor Paul Fearon, the medical director of St Patrick's, says we should hold on to the lessons learned during the pandemic:
"We came together during the pandemic and we're talking more about our mental health and about stigma. But I think that momentum, especially as a pandemic might be now sort of receding, that we don't forget about all of these things and that we keep fighting stigma because it's such an important issue."
