A new survey has found a lack of affordable housing is causing 18 to 24 year olds to consider moving away from cities.

It shows more than 50% of young people would live and work outside of Ireland's main cities because accommodation is too expensive.

The survey, of 300 young people, also found 33% would prefer to work from home on a full-time basis.

The research is part of the SIRO Gigabit Hubs initiative and CEO John Keaney, says flexibility and choice is now more important to younger workers:

"When we conducted the study, we didn't really get any surprises. What it did was reinforced things we would see within the wider workforce, and that young people wanted choice about where and how they would work. COVID has changed people's expectations of what the new new normal needs to be or should be. You need connectivity and world class connectivity to actually realize that opportunity."
