Students are facing homelessness or deferring college places as the accommodation crisis deepens.

That's according to UCC Students Union who are hosting a "Student Walk Out" next month as students call for the abolition of college fees, the banning of privately owned student accommodation and more Government investment in student accommodation.

The concern on the lack of affordable housing is being reflected across the country with students unions at colleges nationwide expressing their deep concern at the growing numbers of people seeking help in finding somewhere to live.

UCC students union says it's receiving up to 60 queries a day from students stuck for accommodation, while MTU is receiving up to 50 calls a day as well as 100 emails.

Speaking to RedFM News, Student Welfare Officer at UCC Alannah O'Connor says some students who just got accepted to college won't be able to attend.
