The Higher Education Minister says he's open to 'any solution' to the current shortage of student accommodation, including the construction of modular homes on campus lands.
It comes as the President of Trinity described the shortages as 'a very real crisis'.
Students have been documenting their difficulties online in their attempts to find somewhere to live for the academic year.
Here in Cork, students union president at Munster Technology University says many students feel like they have to choose between an education or a roof over their heads.
Higher Education Minister Simon Harris says they're trying to find any and all solutions to alleviate students concerns:
"Everything is on the table and we've made this very, very clear to the secretary. I've written to presidents of universities saying we're open to any local solution at all. We've seen one in Limerick, for example, where a disused building was put back into use. So whatever it takes, we won't be found wanting. What we don't want is to be having this conversation in the future September's and it is going to require a policy shift."
