The Road Safety Authority is urging motorists to leave the keys at home this St. Patrick's Day weekend.

In the last five years, 11 people have been killed and 55 people have been seriously injured on our roads over the bank-holiday period.

All drink-driving offences carry a period of disqualification, so organise a way home if you're heading out.

Brian Farrell from the RSA says tiredness on the road can also be an issue.

"It's really just to exercise common sense.

"If you're heading on a trip, maybe you're heading home, if you are heading out please head out early andgive yourself plenty of time on the road.

"If you are tired, whatever you do don't fight sleep at the wheel."
