Revolut customers will be able to get paid directly into their app, as the company sets up an Irish branch.
Over the next few months, people will be issued with an Irish IBAN instead of the Lithuanian code currently given to accounts.
The move will make it easier for people to pay direct debits through their app.
Consumer expert Sinead Ryan says under the old system, many employers refused to pay directly into Revolut:
That's actually illegal. They have to accept it and the IBAN's in Revolut's case were set up for their banking licences, which is Lithuania. But a number of companies here said look, we can't process them or systems don't accept them and all of that. So Revolut now have taken the step of issuing Irish IBAN's. I think that will come as a good relief to people who want to use revolute as their main account."
