Revenue says it'll be in contact with 280,000 PAYE workers, who may owe tax for 2020 due to the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.
An average of €780 is owed by workers for the social welfare payment introduced during the first round of pandemic restrictions in March 2020.
It's estimated that those who got the 350-euro Pandemic Unemployment Payment in 2020 owe 6.75 in tax for every week they received it.
The tax liability is due to be deducted from workers' tax credits over four years.
