Representatives from all over the world will come together in Egypt today to discuss how to tackle the climate crisis.
COP27 is happening against a backdrop of extreme weather events and an ongoing energy crisis.
Environmental journalist John Gibbons says the climate negotiations over the last 30 years have been a failure.
"In the 30 years that we've had a global, if you like inter-governmental climate negotiations through the COP process. In that time, worldwide, carbon emissions have more than doubled. So we can say for certain that this process has been to date has been an enormous failure."
