The public is being called on today to donate to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, on 65 Roses Day - the charity's largest fundraising event.
There are one in 19 carriers of the disease in Ireland - the highest per capita worldwide.
Aoife Rafter, cystic fibrosis patient, ambassador and cervical cancer survivor outlined her energy level struggles:
"I'm 31 but my energy levels are constantly different. I can't really over commit myself to a thing. I need to be able to let something go if I'm just not well enough to do it or well enough to attend. Or pretend I don't have symptoms of an infection when I clearly do for social selfish reasons".
