Private Sean Rooney has been remembered as a “national hero”, at his funeral in Co Louth this morning,
Hundreds of mourners attended the mass for the 24 year old peacekeeper, who was killed in Lebanon last Wednesday night.
Prv Rooney was remembered as a family man, who adored his fiancé Holly McConnalogue.
In a statement read from the altar by Fr Derek Ryan, Holly said she always felt safe with Sean and he made her believe she could do or be anything.
Natasha McCluskey, Prv Rooney’s mother, said she will be forever proud of her son:
"He was the most beautiful baby, the most gorgeous boy and handsome man you will ever meet. But that was just a fraction of what was on the inside. I will love you forever son, and I cannot wait to be reunited with you in heaven."
