Private cars have been completely banned from College Green in Dublin.
The move to a 24-hour 'Bus Gate' has been met with a mixed reaction, with businesses still unsure what it will mean for deliveries and waste collection.
The expansion of a bus corridor in the area means from today only public transport can use the route around College Green.
Up until now, private cars were permitted to drive in the area 12 hrs a day - but that’s been expanded to a ban on all private vehicles 24 hrs a day, seven days a week.
Businesses say Dublin city council proceeded with plans, despite question marks remaining over what it means for deliveries and waste collection.
Dublin City Council says local Access to the Dame Street/College Green area and the Bank of Ireland and Fosters place will be maintained for general traffic, but drivers cannot exit using the Bus Gate.
