The President will attend the National Famine Commemoration in County Donegal later.
The event - which gets underway in Milford at 2 o'clock - will include military honours and a wreath-laying ceremony in memory of those that lost their lives in the 'Great Hunger' of the mid-1800s.
The Defence Forces will be represented by Chaplain to the military and Irish Navy, Fr. Jerry Carroll.
