Miriam Duggan - President of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland - has died.
The union says she passed away following a short illness bravely borne.
She was a teacher in Dublin and also represented teachers on a number of State education bodies.
Education Minister Norma Foley has described Miriam as a "tireless advocate for the education community."
