A potential change to the Local Property Tax may affect thousands of homeowners and they're being urged to have their say on the matter ahead of a City Council meeting next month where
councillors will decide whether to adjust the rate.
The Act around LPT makes specific provision that elected members of a local authority may pass a formal resolution to vary the basic rate of the tax for their administrative area by a percentage.
Councillors first vote on whether the rate should be adjusted and if it is agreed to adjust it, a number of proposals are typically forward, councillors can decide to change the rate upwards or downwards by 15%.
The decision to be made in relation to any changes to the property tax has potentially significant outcomes in terms of the funds available to Cork City Council for its budget.
The Echo reports that the Council is welcoming written submissions from the public on the matter by the end of August ahead for consideration at it's September 22nd meeting.
