Over a quarter of parents have cut back or gone without heat as they struggle with the cost of living

The research from Barnardos also found one in six have cut back or gone without medical appointments and medicines in the past six months.

It comes as the Cost of Living Coalition prepares to march in Dublin on June 18th over the crisis.

Beth O'Reilly from the Union of Students in Ireland says they're joining forces with the likes of pensioners, lone parents and trade unions;

"Students obviously have been paying absolutely extortionate rents. They've the highest fees in the EU for third level education. And now on top of that, bills are going up, food prices are going up and it's more than the SUSI grants can cover and it's more than a student with a part time job can cover. So we just have a lot of students being priced out of higher education."
