The Children's Rights Alliance says there was an increase of 30,000 children experiencing deprivation last year.

Over 260,000 children experienced poverty in 2023, according to the latest Child Poverty Monitor.

Julie Ahern, Director of Legal, Policy and Services at the Children's Rights Alliance, says a quarter of a million children don't have the essentials of a normal society:

"They're going to bed hungry once a week in a week, they don't maybe have clothes to fit for school. Their parents are struggling to maybe pay the heating bills, and they're forced to make decisions between heating and putting food on the table. So really, I suppose what it means is a life where they can't enjoy the basic things that we will consider normal for children".
