A nursing home operator is warning dozens of private facilities could close as costs in the sector continue to rise.
It's claimed the Fair Deal scheme doesn't factor in rising inflation in the past year and a half.
Silver Stream Healthcare has two facilities here in Cork and CEO Tom Finn, says funding isn't keeping pace with healthcare inflation:
"We all are very aware that that's 17 or 18 homes closed last year, and, you know, they NTPF obviously administers the budget on behalf of the HSE and and ultimately the Department of Health. You know, typically, those increases have been in the in the area of 2% per annum. So it's always been behind behind, and it's a long time legacy problem, but that's obviously become far more the last year, year and a half".
