Number Of People On Live Register In May Stands At 176,999

The number of people on the Live Register in May was 176-thousand 999.

Of those, just over 53 percent were male and almost 70 percent were Irish.

Of the almost 177,000 people on the unadjusted Live Register in May 2023, 53.6% were men, while the 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those signing on at 23.7% of the total.

Today's CSO figures show the counties that saw the largest percentage increase in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to April were Kerry (29.5%) and Leitrim (29.5%).

They also reveal that the number of people on the Live Register for one year or more in April stood at 63,268, down 2,410 from a year earlier.

Meanwhile 69% of those on the live register are Irish.
