Loyalist paramilitaries are warning of "dire consequences" if Northern Ireland were to be governed by both the Irish and British administrations.
The Loyalist Community Council, a group who represents the UDA, UVF and Red Hand Commando released a statement last night.
The letter also warns Irish government ministers "should not be visiting Northern Ireland while the protocol remains".
Belfast Telegraph journalist, Alison Morris, says the threats should be taken seriously.
