TDs will today approve laws that'll give all workers the right to paid sick leave, for the first time.

The government's legislation reaches final stage in the Dáil this evening, before going to the Seanad.

The new scheme will start with three days' sick leave per year, and reach 10 days by 2026.

Sinn Féin's spokesperson for workers' rights, Louise O'Reilly, says there are problems with the bill.

"Because you have to have a sick cert to be able to access the scheme for even a short period of time, that means that if you're on a low income you're only going to get 70% of your wages back and then you're going to have to see a doctor.

"What Sinn Fein had proposed was that until we have universal access to GP care free at the point of delivery that workers wouldn't have to have a medical certificate."
